The Power of Pink – Positively Enhancing Breast Cancer Care in Decatur

“It’s amazing what we can do here, in this size of town, because the community is so generous.” – deLoain Burgess

Each year, the city of Decatur, Alabama transforms into a hub of high style, heartfelt purpose, and community unity through the Power of Pink Fashion Show. Organized by the Decatur Morgan Hospital Foundation, this beloved, always-sold-out event raises vital funds for the breast cancer unit at Decatur Morgan Hospital, and shows just how powerful a small town can be when it comes together for a cause.

A World-Class Designer with Local Roots

At the center of the event is renowned designer deLoain Burgess, an Alabama native whose career took him through the fashion capitals of Paris and Milan before bringing his talents home to deLoain New York Salon and Spa in Decatur. His extraordinary vision elevates the show from a community fundraiser to a runway experience that rivals the world’s biggest stages.

To have a designer of Burgess’s caliber choose to invest his talent back into the community that raised him is part of what makes the Power of Pink so special. His designs—elegant, architectural, and full of personality—transform the runway into a true couture experience. For one night each year, Decatur feels like the front row of Fashion Week.

Fashion With a Purpose

While the production is stunning, it is the mission behind it that makes the Power of Pink so powerful. All proceeds support the breast cancer unit at Decatur Morgan Hospital, helping provide essential care, advanced technology, and compassionate support to patients in North Alabama.

Each year, more than 850 women, joined by over 60 Distinguished Gentlemen, breast cancer survivors, and volunteers, come together to make the event truly unforgettable.

It Takes a Village

The Power of Pink Fashion Show reflects the collective talent and collaboration of Decatur’s residents and businesses. Among the local contributors is The Carriage House, a Decatur boutique that sends models down the runway dressed in their latest looks. Their participation highlights local fashion while beautifully complementing Burgess’s high-end designs.

Local high-school students, church groups, models, and others volunteer to help execute Burgess’s vision, organize, and set up the event. Sponsors buy tables, and residents show up to support those impacted by breast cancer.

Power of Pink is built on the simple belief that when a community comes together, real change can happen. Breast cancer has touched countless families in Morgan County and beyond, and this event gives people a way to honor survivors, support patients currently in treatment, and remember loved ones lost too soon.

A Small Town Making a BIG Impact

It’s remarkable that such a high-caliber fashion event, led by an internationally experienced designer, springs from a city with fewer than 60,000 people. But that’s exactly what makes Decatur special.

This year’s Power of Pink Fashion Show at Ingalls Harbor Pavilion raised over $100,000 to support Decatur Morgan Hospitals’ breast cancer treatment services. These funds help ensure that women in North Alabama receive advanced care, lifesaving screenings, and compassionate support close to home.

The Power of Pink Fashion Show isn’t just proof that small towns can do big things. It’s a reminder of just how special Decatur is. Here, creativity thrives. Kindness is abundant. And community support is woven into everything, from the local boutiques to the high school halls, to the hearts of residents.
