Our Forever Home: The Hallmarks Have a Positively Full Life in Decatur
In 1991, my husband, Jeff, and I married and made the life-changing decision to start a new chapter in Decatur. It was a leap of faith, but little did we know the incredible journey that awaited us in this charming city.
Jeff pursued a career in the trucking industry while I embarked on my path as a RE/MAX REALTOR®️.
As we settled into our new home, we were determined to make a positive impact and actively contribute to the community we now called our own.
From the moment we arrived, we dove headfirst into community involvement. Joining the Decatur Jaycees, a group dedicated to community service and leadership development, was an exciting first step. I also became a proud member of the Junior League, an organization focused on making a difference through volunteer work. These experiences allowed us to meet like-minded individuals and form strong connections with fellow Decatur residents.
Our belief that every child deserves a safe, stable home and strong positive role models led us to volunteer and serve as Board members with Big Brothers Big Sisters, now known as Mosaic Mentoring, and PACT (Parents and Children Together). Our time with these organizations has been incredibly fulfilling and rewarding.
I can’t forget to mention one of our most memorable experiences: our involvement with the Carnegie Visual Arts Center. It was a true honor for Jeff to be crowned the 8th Carnegie Carnival Mardi Gras King, a title that recognized his commitment to fundraising and supporting artistic expression and cultural experiences within our community.
Through our journey in Decatur, we have made lifelong friends who share our passion for community engagement. Together, we work tirelessly to create programs and events that enhance the quality of life for all who call Decatur home. Decatur’s transformation over the years has been remarkable, and we are proud to have been part of its growth.
We’ve seen the community rally around local businesses, celebrate cultural diversity, and foster an inclusive and welcoming environment.
Our story is just one example of the incredible opportunities that Decatur offers.
What sets Decatur apart? Why should you consider making Decatur your home? For me, it’s the incredibly generous citizens and business community, always ready to lend support for the improvement of our town.
Plus, there’s the abundant outdoor recreational opportunities right in your backyard. And of course, we have our buzzing and bubbling art scene, steadily growing through the efforts of the Princess Theatre, the Alabama Center for the Arts, and the Carnegie Visual Arts Center. There’s always a performance or exhibit to enjoy in Decatur.
As you embark on your own journey in this fabulous city, you’ll discover the same sense of community, the breathtaking beauty of the Tennessee River, and the rich history that drew Jeff and me here.
Embrace the opportunities that Decatur presents, get involved, and become a part of the vibrant fabric that makes this city truly special.
Decatur has become our forever home, and we can’t wait for you to experience the positively fabulous lifestyle it has to offer, too.
