Each winter, the Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge transforms into a sanctuary for thousands of Sandhill Cranes and the rare Whooping Cranes. This celebration of nature and community is more than just a gathering; it’s a story of conservation, history, and connection.

Are you passionate about plants? Do you want to have a beautiful garden but have no clue where to start? The Morgan County Master Gardeners Association can help!

Each winter, anywhere from 10,000 to 25,000 temporary residents show up to bring an experience that’s positively Decatur. The guests? Migrating sandhill cranes and even several pairs of extremely rare whooping cranes.

Point Mallard has long been the spot for Decatur and the surrounding areas to congregate, play, and work in the warmer (and sometimes blazing hot) months of the year.

The Flint Creek Canoe Trail opened in 2018, and with its opening, kayakers and canoers have access to the interior of Wheeler Wildlife Refuge and all the amazing scenery and beautiful wildlife on the Refuge.
