Decatur, Alabama, is home to some seriously cool outdoor adventures. As the weather begins to cool off and the colors of fall start to paint the city, there’s no better time to saddle up and explore some of Decatur’s most popular outdoor amenities: the bike trails.

So grab your bike, and let’s embark on a fall biking adventure in Decatur!

First up: the Dr. Bill Sims Bike Trail.

Nature at Its Best: If you’re into jaw-dropping views, you’re in for a treat. The Dr. Bill Sims Bike Trail is a 14-mile trail that hugs the Tennessee River. Along the trail, you will see some incredible sights, including lush woodlands, shimmering water views, and historic locations that are guaranteed to make for an enjoyable ride.

Ride Your Way: Whether you’re a casual rider or a serious cyclist, this trail has you covered. There are sections of flat road for the beginners as well as challenging hills and dips for the thrill-seekers. It’s all about choosing your own adventure.

Family-Friendly Fun: Grab the kids and leash up your four-legged friends because this trail is family-friendly and pet-approved! The paths are well kept, and many of the slopes are gentle, perfect for a day out with the whole gang.

Cultural Pit Stops: As if nature’s beauty wasn’t enough, the Dr. Bill Sims trail can also connect you with some local cultural spots in Decatur. You can pedal your way to destinations like the Princess Theatre Center for the Performing Arts, the Alabama Center for the Arts, and the Historic Train Depot and Railroad Museum.

Versatile Trails: The trails at Point Mallard have a sweet 3-mile paved path just waiting for you to explore. Open to both bikers and hikers, these trails offer the perfect way to enjoy the outdoors while getting your exercise in.

Riverside Riding: Some of the Point Mallard trails run alongside the Tennessee River, giving you those stunning waterfront views that can’t be beat. Picture yourself cycling with the gentle breeze and the sounds of the river – it makes for a beautiful ride!

Even More Family Fun: Just like the Dr. Bill Sims Bike Trail, Point Mallard Park is an excellent location for family-friendly fun. Plus, after a day of biking, you can enjoy a picnic surrounded by the gorgeous scenery of the park.
